Eva loves chaos. Or so she says when we ask her what she likes about working in the emergency department. The challenges she faces on a daily basis are the energy boost that makes her know with certainty that being an incident nurse is something you carry inside you, something you are born with.
Despite loving her profession, today it is practically impossible for her to offer a quality service to the patient, because the current healthcare situation is making everything much more complicated: lack of personnel, thousands of ephemeral and precarious contracts, blockages in ambulances, collapses in emergency and primary care, lack of health education, shortage of specialization in services... All this has led the healthcare system to the tightrope. “Sometimes, you come to hate your job. Nursing is a beautiful career, but it is very poorly valued,” she acknowledges.
Things have to change. They MUST change if we want our patients to have access to dignified and quality treatment, as well as key support for the development of their prognosis. Because... What would happen if that patient were someone in your family? Or you yourself?
